The Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) fosters collaboration between the Whiting School of Engineering and the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), industry and mission agencies and performs a critical role in the research and development of new technologies.

Connecting industrial partners and program-oriented government agencies with access to the fundamental research being done at Johns Hopkins Engineering and the APL and providing personnel, expertise, and facilities, the ATL effectively and efficiently addresses a wide range of engineering-oriented applied research projects.

The ATL Provides:

  • Access to the intellectual capital of Johns Hopkins Engineering
  • A dedicated staff of full-time professional scientists, engineers, and technicians, supported by Johns Hopkins Engineering faculty.
  • The ability to identify and provide with the most appropriate skills and knowledge on a project-by-project basis
  • The ability to work on problems in time frames commensurate with partners’ needs
  • Facilities to accommodate partners’ personnel and research activities, including classified projects
  • A strong and expanding research program in advanced materials technology (including the Center for Multi-Function Appliqué)
