Don P. Giddens Inaugural Professorial Lecture: Michael Falk @ Mason Hall Auditorium | Baltimore | Maryland | United States

Dr. Michael Falk will present on April 1, 2014, as part of the Whiting School of Engineering’s Don P. Giddens Inaugural Professorial Lecture Series.

Dr. Falk’s presentation is titled “Disordered Systems at the Breaking Point: Materials, Students, and Schools.” Understanding how a system breaks down tells us a great deal about how its structure dictates the rules it follows, be the system material or human. In this lecture, he will address the way he conceptualizes disorder and breakdown, and he will use it as a stepping-off point for discussing disorder and failure as they arise in educational contexts.

The Don P. Giddens Inaugural Professorial Lecture Series has been a Whiting School tradition since 1993. The lecture series honors newly promoted full professors through the special lecture series. Professor Giddens, originator of the series, served as the fifth dean of Engineering at Johns Hopkins.
