Allison Okamura, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been named the first Gilbert Decker Faculty Scholar. This named award is given to a senior assistant professor or associate professor who exhibits exceptional achievement in their area of expertise. For Okamura, the award recognizes her exceptional achievement in haptics, her area of robotics expertise.
Select faculty members are awarded Faculty Scholar status for a three-year term and receive flexible financial support to promote their innovative research, teaching activities, and entrepreneurial thinking.
Gil Decker, Class of 1958, made a generous reunion gift to establish this award. Decker is WSE’s Co-Chair for the Knowledge for the World Campaign, is on the WSE's National Advisory Council, and has tirelessly served the school as a volunteer and advocate for many years. Decker believes that the school’s long-term success relies heavily on its ability to attract and keep bright, innovative young faculty members. Says Decker, “The Faculty Scholars program is a terrific vehicle for retaining superb, bright, and innovative young faculty members like Allison."
