Whiting School of Engineering
Center for Leadership Education
FULL-TIME LECTURER: CENTER FOR LEADERSHIP EDUCATION
The Johns Hopkins University seeks highly qualified candidates for two full-time teaching positions in the Center for Leadership Education (CLE). The CLE offers renewable, one-year contracts that, with appropriate review, become eligible for longer-term contracts and promotion to senior lecturer. All positions in the center are non-tenured, but Johns Hopkins recently has instituted a new teaching professorship career path for which all full-time lecturerships in the CLE become eligible.
The CLE is housed in the Whiting School of Engineering and boasts three interrelated academic programs: the W. P. Carey Program in Entrepreneurship and Management, the Professional Communication Program and the Masters of Science in Engineering Management. These academic programs focus on business and management from a multidisciplinary viewpoint, taught in a collaborative setting and based on a quantitative foundation. CLE offers courses in the following areas: accounting and finance, leadership, organizational behavior, operations management, venture development, marketing, law, and professional communication.
CLE seeks candidates qualified to teach in one or more of the following areas:
Preference will be given to applicants with subject matter expertise in topics such as technology transfer, general management and strategy, control systems, international commerce and patent law. Responsibilities include teaching 6 courses per academic year, advising undergraduate and graduate students, and participating in curriculum development and evaluation.
Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching, preferably with full-time teaching experience at the undergraduate level or in corporate or graduate training. They must hold a terminal degree; a Ph.D. is preferred. Teaching experience as well as success in a business environment or entrepreneurial experience is required.
For full consideration, applicants should submit curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy statement, a brief description of courses you might like to develop, copies of recent teaching evaluations, and three letters of recommendation by January 15, 2010.
Applications for these positions must be submitted electronically to Kristen Kelley at kkelley@jhu.edu.
The Whiting School of Engineering is committed to building a diverse educational environment; women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. The Johns Hopkins University is an EEO/AA employer.

Department of Civil Engineering
FACULTY POSITION: CIVIL ENGINEERING
JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY: Chaired Professorship in the Department of Civil Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering in the Whiting School of Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University invites applications from distinguished candidates for the Michael G. Callas Professorship in Civil Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering provides a dynamic and richly collaborative environment for novel research originating in the field of civil engineering. Candidates who strengthen or complement the Department’s existing efforts in structural engineering, solid mechanics, stochastic mechanics, and/or probabilistic methods are of particular interest; as are candidates who bring to the Department novel competencies in areas of infrastructure systems, sustainable materials and structures, or advanced modeling and simulation including multi-scale and multi-physics modeling within civil applications. However, flexibility with respect to potential subdiscipline(s) of the Callas Professor is a given and represents a fundamental aspect of the academic culture at Johns Hopkins.
The Callas Professor will have an international reputation in his/her field of research and an exceptional background in sponsored research and teaching. The successful candidate will be a catalyst for collaborations both within, and outside of, the Department. The candidate is expected to provide dynamic leadership in his/her field, to interact with the professional community, and to contribute significantly to the continuing development of the Department. Duties include the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses and supervision of a sustained externally funded research program. An earned doctoral degree in civil engineering or a closely related field is required; professional registration is desirable. Applicants will be considered regardless of current rank; however, the successful candidate must demonstrate academic achievements and/or potential consistent with a Chaired Professorship.
The Callas Professor will join nine other faculty in civil engineering whose research broadly covers the areas of structural engineering/structural mechanics, probabilistic methods/hazard management, geotechnical engineering/geomechanics, and coastal/ocean engineering. The Department has approximately 60 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students, nearly all of whom are Ph.D. candidates. The Department maintains laboratories for graduate research in structural, geotechnical, and coastal/ocean engineering. The University is renowned for its academic freedom, and the position offers a unique opportunity for individuals with a commitment to scholarly research and education.
All applications should be submitted electronically (for full consideration, before December 31, 2009) as a single PDF document to: callas-chair-search@jhu.edu. Applicants should send their curriculum vitae and a list of at least three references. Address all correspondence to Ben Schafer, Chair, Callas Professorship Search Committee, Department of Civil Engineering, The Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD, 21218. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. The Johns Hopkins University is an EEO/AA employer.
