21The Johns Hopkins Black Faculty and Staff Association has selected Dr. Ralph Etienne-Cummings, professor and chair of electrical and computer engineering, for inclusion in The Indispensable Role of Blacks at Johns Hopkins, a Johns Hopkins University virtual exhibit.

The exhibit is designed to recognize Johns Hopkins University’s black students, faculty, and staff who have contributed to this institutions rich history and who have brought honor to the institution through their achievements.

Dr. Etienne Cummings has been recognized for his activities in promoting the participation of women and minorities in STEM fields. He currently holds seven patents and has mentored more than 35 students at the graduate level. His research interests include systems and algorithms for biologically inspired and low-power processing biomorphic robotics, applied neuroscience, neural prosthetics, and computer-integrated surgical systems and technologies.

The induction ceremony will be held on June 17, 2016.
