Russell H. Taylor, a Johns Hopkins professor who is widely hailed as the father of medical robotics, has been selected to receive the 2015 Honda Prize. The selection was announced Sept. 28 and awarded on Nov. 17 by the Honda Foundation. The Honda Prize is awarded to an individual or group to recognize accomplishments in the field of “ecotechnology,” which works to advance human achievement while preserving the natural environment.

The Honda Foundation, based in Tokyo, was established by Honda Motor’s founder Soichiro Honda and his younger brother, Benjiro Honda. The foundation is currently headed by Hiroto Ishida. The goal of the Honda Foundation is “creating a truly humane civilization.”
